Introduction

History of The College

The birth of the college took place shorty after the demise of the former princely state of Dir. As the educational framework of the state was purposely kept rudimentary as a state policy, there has been no renowned academic institution throughout the history of Dir. After the abolition of the principality (nawabi), two colleges one each at the capital towns of Timergara and Dir Proper were immediately built in 1969 and 1974, repectively. The later was established as an intermediate level college which would later upgrade to the level of a degree college in 1998.

Dir College is located on the entrance of the town coming from Timergara. Thanks to rapid economic growth, the town is now slowly engulfing and shifting areas once situated far outside the old town.

Dir College was once the sole twin brother of Timergara College within the bounds of the former principality. Nowadays, there are more than half a dozen colleges, one university and several local campuses of leading universities of the province present in this area. Many proposed colleges are also underway and likely to open in the near future. The inauguration of new colleges has greatly cut short the number of students enrolled each year but it still counts above a thousand each year.
