Message from the Director General Commerce Education
Prof. Umer Ali Khan
Director General, Commerce Education – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Peshawar

The existence and continuous expansion of businesses across the globe highlight the undeniable importance of business and commerce education. The world of commerce has evolved significantly—from the simplicity of barter systems to complex, yet user-friendly, e-commerce models. Traditional street shops have transformed into mega malls, manual production has been overtaken by automation, and people’s economic outlook has shifted from local to global. Today, the true strength of nations lies in their economic and commercial might, rather than in military power.

In recent decades, the influx of foreign investment into Pakistan has dramatically increased the demand for qualified commerce and management professionals. This trend has triggered a nationwide transformation in business education, prompting the Government of Pakistan to take meaningful steps in promoting commerce and management studies across the country.

The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has shown remarkable dedication in this regard. With a strong budgetary focus on the education sector, the provincial government has re-engineered commerce colleges across the region. These institutions have been upgraded to Management Sciences Colleges, affiliated with reputable public universities, and now offer a wide range of modern and market-driven degree programs.

I firmly believe that the current model of the Government College of Management Sciences (GCMS), Abbottabad—dedicated to serving the local community—will play a pivotal role in enlightening future generations. Our unwavering commitment, teamwork, and humble approach will, without a doubt, contribute positively to the economic development and quality of life of our people.
