Before 1962 the students of Swabi had the only option of studying at Govt: College Mardan due to the absence of any college in the area. In order to provide the best possible education to the poor but talented students of the area, Begum Mehmooda Saleem Khan, the then education minister for West Pakistan, ordered for the construction of an Inter College at Swabi. The initial classes of the said college were started in the building of government primary school Swabi on temporary basis. The hospitable and education loving Yousafzais of Swabi, especially of village Maneri, donated an entire land of 110 canals to the government for the construction of the said college at Gohati village, situated along the main Mardan Swabi road. After fulfilling the codal formalities of transferring the land to the college, the construction began immediately and within a short period of one year the impressive building of the college was completed under the benign supervision of the local elders. As soon as the construction completed the classes were shifted to the college from government Primary School Swabi in 1963.
Initially Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering and Arts Classes were offered at Inter level. After two years Bachelor Degree courses were offered in Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics and Physics. With the passage of time other courses were offered both at Inter & Degree levels. In 1990s a huge science block was added to the college building. After a long and hard struggle of the teachers and students, the college was upgraded to Postgraduate level in 2003 with two subjects i.e. Political Science & Economics for which a separate post Graduate Block was constructed, now BS classes are held here while Postgraduate Classes have been switched off in 2014.
In 2012 BS programme was introduced in Physics and soon the programme was extended to four other disciplines i.e. Chemistry, Botany, Economics, & Political Science. The college has now been converted from conventional to semester system, and BS programme has been started in all major disciplines like English, Urdu, Mathematics, Islamiyat, Statistics, Computer Science & Geography.
The college has shown brilliant results at Inter, Degree, Postgraduate & BS levels. Various top positions of University have been repeatedly swept by the students of this college. It is hoped that the college will soon be a full-fledged Degree awarding institute.
